About me and the Little Birdie Quilting Studio

My name is Karen Mundt, and I operate my quilting business in Gatton, Queensland. While I have been quilting for some years, I’ve only recently taken the plunge and given up my day job!
I am married with 3 children- but only the youngest one is still at home. Luckily, they are all used to finding Mum in her quilting room. We live in a beautiful area of South East Queensland, in a nearly new house and a garden looked after by my husband, including the rose gardens he planted just for me! We have two dogs, one is Chloe the ‘old lady’, and the newest addition little puppy Hayley who likes to keep the old lady on her toes.

I love exploring all types of patchwork, quilting and stitching but tend to favour raw-edge, naive and slightly rustic works with sometimes lots of colour, sometimes a faded well-worn vintage look.

For my quilting business, I use a Gammill long arm quilting machine and do hand-guided quilting, meaning that I do a lot of free-hand designs and no computerised patterns. I especially love doing contemporary quilts and art quilts but also happy to do any style of quilting. I will discuss with you your own preferred design.

If you would to discuss how you would like your quilt to be quilted, contact me by emailing karen@littlebirdiequilting.com
I’m only just starting this blog, so please bear with me in these early days!

  1. Hi Karen,
Your quilting, and your blog, looks great! I’ve linked mine to your tutorial on using vliesofix today… I hope my readers spend some time on your site.

  2. Hi Karen, Have had more time to have a look at the quilt you just finished quilting for me. Just beautiful, so much detail, absultely thrilled with what you have done.Thank you very much. Bev
